Christmas Cases

For a selection to match every foreseeable festive moment, from popping that first cork on Christmas morning to sinking slowly into a slumber in front of the Christmas specials, try our mixed cases – available in Bronze, Silver and, of course, Scarlet!

The 6-bottle cases all include a bottle of bubbles to get the party going, two whites and two reds of different styles to keep all your guests happy, and a bottle of port to wrap you in its warm glow at the end of the day.

Cases start at just £60 and all include at least 10% saving from our per-bottle price.

We also have an impressive selection of spirits from around the world, perfect for gifts or stocking up your cocktail cabinet this Christmas. The spirits we stock are not the brands you usually find. We seek out small artisan producers making something brilliant – from Dutch Genever to American Gin, hard to find Rums, Japanese Whisky and top quality Grappa.

Yet another reason to visit your local wine merchant this Christmas!

Sunday Lunch Drinks

As this incredible Indian Summer draws to a close, we are once again offering Scarlet Sunday Roasts to keep appetities properly sated during the colder months. Beef, Pork and Lamb will be served on rotation every Sunday between 12-7.30, allowing for a sedate start to the day, followed by the inevitable collapse onto the nearest sofa.

We have put together the following suggestions from our drinks list to help you find the perfect match each week. Our wine list is always expanding and we try to think outside the box – so please give one of these a go and let us know what you think!

  1. Secret Orchard Cider, £5. This refreshing craft cider from deepest Exmoor is a great match with pork and apple sauce.
  2. Arboleda Pinot Noir, Chile, £24.95. Really first class Pinot Noir from cool coastal Anconcagua. This has a strawberry and rose hip nose, an impressive silky sweetness and some smoky notes from barrel ageing. Chilean Pinot Noir is coming of age!
  3. Journeys End Haystack Chardonnay, South Africa, £16.45. Nicely rich and ripe with some tropical fruit and a drop of vanilla oak. Classic, full-bodied style and a white wine with enough clout to stand up to a roast dinner.

  1. Fontodi Chianti Classico, Chianti, £26.95. Tuscan reds are a really classic match for lamb. Fontodi is one of the stars of the highly regarded DOCG area, and this is his stock in trade – simply superb Chianti Classico.
  2. Capezzana, Barco Reale, Tuscany, £18.95. Awesome value. The second wine from the super historic Capezzana Estate in Carmignano. Sangiovese plus some Cabernet – this seriously over-delivers for the price.
  3. Domaine Labranche-Laeffont, Madiran, £19.45. Madiran is in SW France close to Pau and is known for producing intense, full-bodied reds. Tannat is the local grape and here it gives this some nice ripe cassis and liquorice flavours, intense fruit and a hint of spice.

  1. Scala Dei, Black Slate, Priorat, £21.95. This is a rare chance to try the dense delights of Priorat at a reasonable price. There is a stony, smoky, dark intesity here that demands attention.
  2. Chateau Beynat, Bordeaux, £17.95. Super value for an organic Bordeaux; mid weight, raspberry fruit and some spice, lovely modern style.
  3. Benventano Aglianico, Vesevo, £16.95. Dark ripe fruit, liquorice and lovely soft fruit tannin. This is a great big mouthful of red and great value.

September Wine Tasting

On Saturday 21st ans Sunday 22nd September Scarlet wines is holding the first of what we hope will become our annual September Wine Festival. Why September ? Well, (hopefully) good weather and a little more time to breathe after the hectic summer make it the perfect time to relax and enjoy the good things in life. Like great wine, great spirits and great food.

We have lined up about thirty wines for you to try. You will see from the following pages that these are generally grouped into grape varieties or sryle. The aim is that you can try contrasting styles of the same grape or blend.

You can taste as many or as few of the wines as you like all for £15. You will get a tasting sample of each wine, usually about 25ml. We’d love to pour you a big glass of each wine but then you would never make it to the end of the tasting! Spitoons are available on request. A discount of 10% is available for anything you buy or order at the tasting. We are also running an all day tapas menu, so if you would like some food to go with your wine please let us know.

No ticket is needed in advance. See you at the tasting!
